Why Patton Oswalt Should Host The 2013 Academy Awards

I really wanted Billy Crystal to do a great job hosting the Oscars this year.  I liked him in years past, and he's great at comedy.  Sadly that just didn't happen this year.  In my opinion, and many others, this years ceremony was a mess.  From an opening montage that was all over the place, to an opening musical number that was waaay off key.  The rest of the evening then started to fall apart quickly with presenters that decided to do shtick.  (We're looking at you Cameron Diaz and J Lo.)

Then for a brief moment towards the end of the show, there was some hope.  In a montage we had a few seconds of the comedy genius that is Patton Oswalt.  That's when it hit me.  Patton should host next years Academy Awards!  I quickly put that thought out on Twitter to see what others thought.

For the past couple of days there have been reports that Sacha Baron Cohen was banned from attending this years Oscars.  Word is that this was because Cohen was planning on attending the ceremony as the character 'Admiral General Aladeen' from his upcoming comedy The Dictator (which looks HILARIOUS).

A source told THR that he was not banned and his tickets were delivered to him.  However, it was made clear to Cohen that the Oscars were not to be used as a promotional stunt for his movie.

POPped Review: Dark Horse Comics 'B.P.R.D.: Hell on Earth – The Long Death'

I really enjoyed Hellboy II: The Golden Army. It inspired me to pick up the Hellboy Companion which, in turn, compelled me to get my hands on every Hellboy trade I could get my hands on.

On which I could get my hands.

Whatever.

What didn’t turn me on about
Hellboy II was the ridiculous casting of Seth McFarlane in the role of Johann Kraus. His abrasive and offensive “German” accent was so off-putting that it’s probably one of the big reasons people couldn’t lock into the movie.

Johann is a deep and affecting character with many levels of motivation and the movie version was an extended, self-indulgent joke for Mr. McFarlane.

*Mild Spoilers Ahead*
