First Trailer For Spielberg's 'Lincoln' Hits The Web
Lincoln has been in the works for several years, and originally had Liam Neeson attached in the title role. Cameras finally began rolling on the movie last year and today we get the first trailer. After watching it we can say that it has Oscar bait written all over it.
Take the jump to watch the trailer.
Lincoln stars Daniel Day-Lewis as the 16th president, Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Robert Todd Lincoln. The cast list does go on to include Tommy Lee Jones (Thaddeus Stephens), David Strathairn (William Seward) and Jackie Earle Haley (Alexander Stephens).
Lincoln is based in part on the book 'Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln' by Doris Kearns Goodwin, with the movies screenplay by Tony Kushner (Munich). Do I even need to remind you that it's directed by Steven Spielberg? While his last film, War Horse, was not a flop - grossing $79+ million with a budget of $69 million - it was not the break out hit that was hoped for. Lincoln appears to be the type of storytelling that we have grown accustomed to from Spielberg, and still has the intensity it needs. It's exactly the type of movie we need at just the right time.
By now Lincoln ranks among the "must-see's" of 2012, and among the "duh's" of Academy Award nominations. We'll just have to wait and see it for ourselves. In the meantime, maybe we can just pick up a book about the man. Perhaps one that doesn't involve vampires.
Lincoln opens November 16th.
What say you?
