From the music of Mary Poppins ('Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious', 'Feed The Birds'), to Disneyland songs you can never get out of your head ('It's A Small World', 'The Tiki, Tiki, Tiki Room', 'A Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow'), his songs are known around the world.
The news of Robert Sherman's passing came from his son via Facebook.
Hello to family and friends,
I have very sad news to convey.
My Dad, Robert B. Sherman, passed away tonight in London. He went peacefully after months of truly valiantly fending off death. He loved life and his dear heart finally slowed to a stop when he could fight no more.
I will write more about this incredible man I love and admire so much when I am better rested and composed. He deserves that.
In the meantime, please say a prayer for him. As he said, he wanted to bring happiness to the world and, unquestionably, he succeeded. His love and his prayers, his philosophy and his poetry will live on forever. Forever his songs and his genius will bring hope, joy and love to this small, small world.
I love you, Dad.
During his career, Robert Sherman won two Academy Awards and was nominated 9 times. In 2009, a documentary chronicling the life of Robert and his brother was released. The Boys: The Sherman Brothers Story quickly became a must-see for Disney fans.
The music of Robert Sherman has touched us all during some point in our lives. As annoying as 'It's A Small World' is, when you hear that song you are automatically transported to Disneyland. That is the power of a great songwriter. Many of their songs are timeless and will continue to be played for ages to come.
Thank you Robert Sherman for so many great songs and so many wonderful memories. The world is a little less melodic today.
What say you?
