Rob Marshall Bringing Sondheim's 'Into The Woods' To The Big Screen

Academy Award nominated director Rob Marshall (Chicago, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) will be bringing another musical to the big screen.  THR is reporting that Rob has signed with Disney to create a film adaptation of James Lapine and Stephen Sondheim's Into The Woods.  This movie is part of a new two-year deal he has signed with the mouse house.

Marshall has quite a bit of experience in adapting stage musicals in to critically loved movies.  While Nine did not reach the level of success that Chicago did, it did garner several Oscar nominations.  With Into The Woods, Marshall will be adapting something quite different.  Into The Woods is a brilliant, dark musical-comedy that weaves fairy tales together to show that it's very difficult to live happy ever after.

In this number, Cinderella and Rapunzel's prince's wonder who is having the hardest time trying to woo their ladies.

I love this musical and am incredibly excited to see what Marshall can do with this.  I only hope that Disney doesn't try to force a happy ever after.

What say you?
