leetUP Has Arrived And Promises Nerd Partying Like Never Before
For generations, popular perception is that nerds have no social life. You can put that theory to rest because on March 1st, leetUP promises a nerd gathering like has never happened before.
You might be wondering what exactly leetUP is, and you wouldn't be alone. leetUP is the creation of Kevin Pereira (G4's Attack Of The Show), Charles Hirschhorn (conceived G4 network) and the team from iam8bit. On the website, Kevin describes leetUP as:
leetUP will include appearances from people like Kevin Smith, Chris Hardwick, Felicia Day, Doug Benson, Greg Fitzsimmons and a performance from VJ artist Mike Realm. That's just a brief look at who will be in attendance. Check out the teaser announcement that hit the interwebs today.
The idea is to have a gathering of things from the nerd-o-sphere under one roof for one night. From videogames to internet culture, this night will be like CES, E3 and Comic-Con had a crazy threesome and this is the result.
It appears that the idea is to not only bring these things together, but to create a social gathering to celebrate all of this. So instead of just showing up to be entertained by watching people perform, or just talk, it will be an immersive experience for all that attend.
That's one of the best things about this. This isn't a private event for select "popular" nerds. This is open to the public.
General admission tickets are $15 if you purchase early. There will also be a limited amount of VIP tickets available for $50. Tickets go on sale this Friday through Ticketmaster, at the Staples Center box office and at iam8bit. You can bet that as word about leetUP begins to spread, tickets will go pretty fast.
The inaugural leetUP will be held at Club Nokia in Los Angeles on March 1st. If all goes well, you can look for leetUP to be held in other cities.
The whole concept of leetUP is fantastic. Not just bringing so many cool things together, but making the night about being social. While Comic-Con has shown that nerd culture has taken over entertainment, leetUP will prove that it's something that brings most of us together. Or, at the very least it will be a chance to have some good times, good drinks and see some cool stuff.
