Sorry for the delayed post with this information, but I was attacked by firework wielding ninjas earlier today. That wasn't the only attack that happened on July 4th. Both Fox News and Apple were hacked in the early hours. Let's start off with Apple news.
A group called AntiSec, made up of members from Anonymous and LulzSec, have apparently hacked Apple's database of users and poached personal information. This information became public late Sunday from a tweet that they posted:
That link leads to a web page showing what appears to be usernames and passwords. While nothing has been done with this information, it does show what Apple doesn't like to discuss. Their systems are incredibly vulnerable and it could devastate the company if a more intrusive hack happens. I'm guessing that since AntiSec has started this game with them, others will be joining in as well. My suggestion is for you to change any Apple related log-in information of yours.
Apple has yet to respond to requests for a comment.
Then there's Fox News...
Early Monday morning the Fox News Politics Twitter feed tweeted some scary news. According to them President Obama had been killed during a campaign stop at a restaurant in Ohio. The biggest problem with this news was that it wasn't true. Nope. Their Twitter feed had been hacked and was sending out tweet after tweet with this news. Take a look at the screen captures I made when I discovered it.
Notice that it says the tweets had been posted three hours earlier. Three hours earlier! This was up for three hours at that point and had still not been taken down.
Knowing that hackers were controlling the Fox News Politics feed, we tried letting other Fox News feeds know about it.
That means that no one at Fox News was paying attention to any of their news, or Twitter, feeds. It wasn't until late Monday morning that the tweets were pulled down and a comment was given by them.
Here is the official statement from FoxNews.com:
FoxNews.com's Twitter feed for political news, FoxNewspolitics, was hacked early Monday morning.
Hackers sent out several malicious and false tweets claiming that President Obama had been assassinated. Those reports were incorrect, of course, and the president was spending the July 4 holiday with his family at the White House.
The tweets have been removed from the feed.
FoxNews.com alerted the U.S. Secret Service, which will investigate the hacking and do "appropriate follow up," spokesman George Ogilvie said.
Jeff Misenti, vice president and general manager of Fox News Digital, said FoxNews.com was working with Twitter to address the situation as quickly as possible.
"We will be requesting a detailed investigation from Twitter about how this occurred, and measures to prevent future unauthorized access into FoxNews.com accounts," Misenti said.
FoxNews.com regrets any distress the false tweets may have created.

While I understand that the Secret Service does have to be involved because of the nature of the tweets, there is nothing that Twitter can do. Let me tell you what happened Fox. Someone guessed your password or had access to your password. If your password was 'Password', well that's your fault. If it was 'HowlingMadMurdoch', well then it was just a matter of time.
The group that pulled this job off was Scriptkiddies, who have ties to Anonymous.
With these two attacks so close together one has to wonder if that means that something big is coming. When I say big, I'm thinking along the lines of the Sony mess.
Just to be safe, unplug everything now.
What say you?
