UPDATED: 'Cowboys & Aliens' Will Have Its Pemiere at Comic-Con

Cowboys & Aliens will have it's world premiere at Comic-Con this July.
A few weeks ago we put something on Twitter that got a lot of Comic-Con fans wondering what was going on.  We said that we had just gotten some information about something happening at Comic-Con that we were asked (begged) not to reveal by an insider.  This was incredibly difficult for us to do, but relationships can be very fragile in Hollywood, so we did what they asked.  In this online world of exclusives, as much as it pained us, we sat on the information.  Today that information finally became public from director Jon Fareau via The Los Angeles Times.
“The worldwide premiere of  ‘Cowboys & Aliens’ will be at Comic-Con,” the director said of his hard-edged sci-fi western that stars Daniel CraigHarrison FordOlivia Wilde and Sam Rockwell  “And not only are we going to premiere it there, we’re going to find a way to include as many of the fans as possible. I feel like they’ve come out for me, they’ve supported me.”
As I stated in another post earlier today, I believe that this is a first for Comic-Con.  While advance movie screenings are common, I don't believe that a studio has actually hosted the world premiere for a movie at Comic-Con.  I'm sure you'll let me know if I'm wrong.

The biggest logistic for this is to figure out where to have it.  With Favreau wanting as many fans as possible to be able to attend, I believe that gives really only one location in San Diego.  Petco Park.  This is merely speculation on our part, but it does make sense as a venue.

A few more details have come out about the premiere.  Looks like the idea of Petco Park is out.  Logistically it would have been a nightmare to pull off.  The parking alone would have been awful, let alone just trying to arrive on time.  Also, it would be incredibly difficult to curb piracy from happening in a stadium as opposed to a theatre like the San Diego Civic.

Jon tweeted that they are printing out 2,000 tickets for fans and they will be given away the week of Comic-Con.  There is no official word as to how exactly they will be given away, but expect Comic-Con giveaways and online contests via Facebook and Twitter.  Universal Studios has also issued the following press release:
