Sony PlayStation Network Coming Back Online This Week - Unless You're In Japan, Hong Kong or S. Korea

Sony has announced that they are planning on bringing the PlayStation Network back online by the end of this week.  If you're in Japan, Hong Kong or South Korea there is no word on when service will be back up for you.

According to the press release Sony has "implemented considerable security enhancements".  Here is what you can expect this week:

The full restoration of PlayStation Network as well as part of services to become available on Qriocity will include:

• Full functionality on PlayStation®Store
• In-game commerce
• Ability to redeem vouchers and codes
• Full functionality on Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for PS3, PSP, VAIO and
other PCs
• Full functionality on Media Go
Customers will be able to purchase and download games and video content from the PlayStation®Store on PS3 or PSP. In addition, consumers will have full access to Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity through PS3, PSP, VAIO and other PC’s. Service restoration of Video on Demand powered by Qriocity™ and Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity for a variety of network-enabled Sony devices will be announced later.

This news will make many PS3 users incredibly excited, and nervous.  While Sony may be making strides to improve security for PSN users, this could almost a dare to hackers.  With all of the attention this has received and with E3 coming up, many hackers might be aiming to take down PSN again.  Why?  Because they can and they love challenges.  Especially a challenge that is getting this much media attention.

We're already interested in how Sony will address the recent hacks during at E3, and how much of their presentation will consist of talking about new security measures.  If another hack were to happen prior to E3, it would be a crushing blow to Sony and make their press event pretty dramatic.

I'm really hoping this doesn't happen.

Don't forget, Sony will have the 'Welcome Back' program for PSN subscribers.  For information on what they are offering, take the jump to our previous story.

We will keep you updated this week as Sony brings everything back online.

What say you?
