Warner Brothers (finally) announces Gordon-Levitt and Cotillard for 'The Dark Knight Rises'

While most have already known that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard were to be in The Dark Knight Rises, it wasn't until today that Warner Brothers officially announced it.  With this announcement we also find out who they will be playing.
Gordon-Levitt: John Blakea Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon.Cotillard: Miranda Tatea Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father’s philanthropic endeavors for Gotham.

I'm calling on all fanboys/fangirls to figure out if these two ever existed in the Bat-iverse, because for the life of me I can't place them.

These characters are quite different than what has been rumored for quite a while.  Levitt has been speculated to play a couple of different characters, including 'The Riddler' or 'Alberto Falcone'.  Cotillard was rumored to be playing 'Tahlia Al Ghul' in the movie.  In a shocking development, the rumors seem to have not been true.  Now some of you may be saying, "Hey....you guys talked about the rumors too!"  To you I say......what's that over there!?!?!?

What say you?

  1. I'm relieved that Levitt isn't playing Falcone - the movie seemed to be too villain heavy. But I'm going to hope that this Miranda Tate is secretly Talia. Because that would still be awesome, and sort of bring the story full circle. (And I'd love to see Cotilliard get to kick some ass in a movie)

I don't recognize either name. Which honestly, is a bit of a relief. There are so many characters from Batman that frankly- unless you're picking one of the main big bads or secondary characters, you're bound to just tick off people.
