There was a time a few years ago that I thought that the movie world could do with a reboot of The Three Musketeers. While the Disney version starring Keifer Sutherland, Charlie Sheen, Chris O'Donnel and Oliver Platt was fun, in a campy sort of way, we needed to see the bad ass-ness of the Musketeers. This version seems to have done it.
The Three Musketeers stars Cristoph Waltz, Logan Lerman, Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Orlando Bloom and Milla Jovovich. The official description of the movie is:
The hot-headed young D'Artagnan along with three former legendary but now down on their luck Musketeers must unite and defeat a beautiful double agent and her villainous employer from seizing the French throne and engulfing Europe in war.
I've always loved the story of the Musketeers, and ever since the first Pirates of the Caribbean movie I've held hope that we would get another good swash buckling movie. This seems to be the one. Although I don't see any need for this movie to have been shot in 3D. The gimmick of feeling like a sword might jump out of the screen and stab you seems like such a 60's trick. I'm sure we'll have just as much fun watching it in 2D.
What say you?
The Three Musketeers opens this October.
