'L.A. Noire' may be the 2011 game of the year

For a while now, Rockstar Games has been teasing us with some game play footage and screenshots of their upcoming title 'L.A. Noire'.  Well just a couple of weeks ago they released a new trailer made up entirely of game play footage. (And I'm an idiot for not getting it to you sooner.)  Going by everything we've seen so far, I believe that 'L.A. Noire' could be the video game of the year.

Take a look at the trailer:

I am a HUGE fan of old Los Angeles, and old crime dramas.  This has everything down to a pixel.  From the use of shadows, to the music score with the breathy trumpet...this has me sold.

It's very smart of Rockstar to let people know that the trailer was made with actual game play footage.  How often do we see a trailer for a game and really wish that it was how the game really looked and felt?  But instead of a movie trailer that gives everything away, none of it even exists in the movie.

It's not just the incredible feel of the footage, it's the quality of it as well.  By using MotionScan technology, Rockstar has taken realism to a new level for video games.  This allows more detail and emotion to be at your control while playing the role of LAPD Detective Cole Phelps.  According to the official description of the game:
L.A. Noire tells the story of WWII hero and aspiring young detective, Cole Phelps as he solves cases and climbs the ranks of the LAPD. Focusing on Cole's experiences working the various desks of the LAPD and attempting to solve a series of potentially linked gruesome murders..
'L.A. Noire' hits stores on May 17 for the XBOX 360 and PS3.

What say you?
