UPDATED: Kevin Smith to counter-protest crazies protesting 'Red State' at Sundance

Director Kevin Smith will be premiering his newest movie, 'Red State', at the Sundance Film Festival.  The movie is being called a horror movie, and if you've seen the trailer (here), it looks very intriguing.  With out getting to descriptive, the movie is about fundamentalism taken to the very extreme.  And there is a group that is the inspiration for this.  They are called the Westboro Baptist Church.  They are the ones that show up at the funerals for soldiers to protest.  They believe that these soldiers are being killed because we are too lenient on homosexuals as a nation.  Riiiight.

But they also show up at other places to get as much attention as possible.  So it comes as no surprise that they are headed to Utah to protest 'Red State'.  Not being one to pass up the opportunity to have fun with these people, Kevin Smith is organizing his own counter-protest...and it sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun.

Here is the official press release regarding this:

Brilliant!  We're hoping that our Sundance correspondent, Jeffrogee, will be able to join Kevin and his team for this.  Or at least some pictures of the signs that Kevin's fans come up with.  If they're even half as witty as the ones from the counter-protest at Comic-Con last year (here), it should be a lot of fun.

Stay tuned for Mr. Smith Goes to Utah....

UPDATED: This is probably the best pic I've seen from the counter-protest.  This comes via Twitter from @alibang2:

  1. I cannot stop laughing at this. Some of the people from my Production Company will be there at the Hope Gallery with Honda and the Asimo robot. I wish I was going to be there. I would definitely be shoulder to shoulder protesting the protest. HE SHOOTS HE SCORES!

  2. It is pretty brilliant isn't it?
