Classic Universal Monsters getting their own game

SEE Virtual Worlds and Universal Studios have announced that they are developing an MMO based on the monsters of Universal Studios classic movies.  SEE's CEO today said:

"Partnering with Universal allows us to revive the horror genre for the 21st century by introducing timeless film franchise characters into an interactive platform,” said Martin Biallas, CEO of SEE Virtual Worlds. “Fans of Van Helsing and the classic Universal Monsters will be delighted with the extent to which they can interact in the deep, immersive social gameplay of the Universal Monsters virtual world when it launches next year.”

Time will tell if this is a good move on Universal's part.  While most of today's young movie audience's are familiar with names like Frankenstein, Dracula and the Wolfman; most of them couldn't tell you who played the Creature or the Wolfman.  So this is an attempt at trying to win their attention back.  It's a question of whether or not this will be an effective way to do that.  We'll be sure to keep you updated with release information.

What say you?  Is this a good approach for Universal or a sign of desperation?

SEE is also developing an MMO based on the music of Michael Jackson called Planet Michael.
