The Empire Strikes 30

It was 30 years ago yesterday that a movie many film fans call 'one of the best movie sequels of all time' was released.  The Empire Strikes Back hit theaters and the perception that science fiction movies are just  popcorn flicks was changed.  With a story that involved a romance, a journey into one's own self and a family dynamic never seen again.  Audiences expecting Luke to save the day again were left in shock with an often mis-quoted line.  "No.  I, am your father."  (At no time does Darth Vader say, "Luke.. I am your father."  Now you know.)  Fans wondered how this could be true and would have to wait another couple of years to find out if it was.

So today we celebrate and hope that you'll see The Empire Strikes Back again and again.  But take a closer look this time and see how this movie changed the face of science fiction movies forever.

What say you?  What are you memories of seeing Empire?
