OFFICIAL: The Wizarding World of Harry Potter opens June 18

Today Universal Orlando Resorts announced that The Wizarding World of Harry Potter will officially open June 18 of this year. Expect large crowds, tons of fans, and the stars of the films to take part in this event.

While many details have been coming out over the past few months about the entire land itself, one that we didn’t have many details about was what is to be their signature attraction Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. The only thing we’ve known up to today about it is that it will start inside Hogwarts Castle and you will then be flying around some familiar scenes. Today more details were finally given:

Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey draws you into the excitement and chaos of Harry's life. As you venture through Hogwarts castle, you meet Harry, Ron and Hermione who convince you to skip a planned lecture and follow them. Upon taking their advice, you travel by Floo powder, and begin the adventure as you soar over Hogwarts, narrowly escape a dragon attack, have a close encounter with the Whomping Willow, get pulled into a Quidditch match and more.

"Guests will experience firsthand a completely new adventure featuring the iconic characters, amazing creatures and recognizable locations they've only read in the books or seen in the films," said Thierry Coup, creative director for The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

Speculation as to how you will be flying is that the enchanted benches will be controlled by Kuka robotic arms. Expect more of the technical aspects of the attraction to be given as we approach the opening date.

Here’s what I find pretty damn cool about this whole thing. First is the name of the attraction, Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey. It is crafted to sound as an additional book, or story, that we’ve never read. The same goes for the entire land. Universal Creative is swinging for the fences here and it looks like it will be a grand slam. One the best things about this is that they are making it an immersive environment. You’re not just going to walk in to a ride, see some cool theming and then get off saying, “That was fun.” In an age where we want more access to everything, this seems like the perfect fit. Am I kissing their a** to get tickets to the opening? You bet I am! But truth be told, I really am excited about this. Who’s with me?

What say you, are you excited for this to open? Does this influence your choice in heading to Orlando this summer? Let us know what you think.
