ANNOUNCED: 'Star Wars: Celebration V' Taking Place in 2010

Get out your Stormtrooper costumes and your Slave Leia bikini's because Star Wars: Celebration V has finally been announced. What started off taking place in a muddy field in Colorado, to snowy weather in Indiana, then to sunny Los Angeles is now headed to the theme park mecca of the world...Orlando, Florida. Celebration V will take place August 12-15, 2010 at the Orange County Convention Center and will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the The Empire Strikes Back. According to the press release:
"We're going to have a blast commemorating the 30th anniversary of fan-favorite The Empire Strikes Back as we welcome an entire new generation of fans watching our animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars," said Steve Sansweet, Lucasfilm's head of Fan Relations. "There's no doubt that Star Wars Celebration V in Orlando will be the 'must attend' event for Star Wars fans of all ages and from all parts of the galaxy," he added.
I have been to three of the four Celebrations held and have had a great time. It was here that I was able to experience seeing The Star Wars Trilogy in 30 Minutes for the first time. (If you have not seen it, check out their website to see where it will be playing next.) This is where I got to meet C3-P0 himself on morning in Indiana while waiting to get in. But of course, the best experience I ever had was when myself and another member of the POP Patrol (ReevesReel) entered a movie spoof in the Star Wars Fan Film Awards contest. The movie won Best Comedy that year. (You can still watch the movie at Atom Films.) But outside of this, these are just a lot of fun to go to. While Comic-Con covers all areas of popular culture, this is so specific you won't have to worry about Twi-tards taking over. People are there for one reason, Star Wars. These films impacted generations of people, and still do. This isn't an argument about Lucas updating the movies, or saying that he raped your childhood by making the prequels (which seems to be a frequent comment on other sites). Nope. This is about the appreciation and love for this universe. And for some reason, you'll still find people showing up dressed as Ghostbusters and Indiana Jones. *sigh* Really, people?
It's going to conventions like Celebration and, of course, Comic Con that I realized something. As much of a dork/nerd/geek that I am, when I look around there I realize that I am not that bad. I was made aware of it one morning in Indiana, it was raining and I (with my brother and niece) were waiting in line to get in. In my mind I was thinking that I was an idiot to be out there. Then I heard a woman in line tell her kid, "If you don't behave I'm going to take away your Jedi powers."

In a trailer park far, far away...

Celebration V tickets go on sale next week. Visit the official web site for more information.
