'The Wizard of Oz' - In Theaters One Night Only

Over the years, in a move perfected by Disney, many studios seeking to make an extra buck will re-release a popular movie into theaters for limited engagements. The most recent being the 'Toy Story' movies, 'The Nightmare Before Christmas' and 'The Polar Express'. And people will always go and see them. Today Warner Brothers announced another film to add to the list. 'The Wizard of Oz' will be in select theaters for one night only on November 17th to commemorate the 70th anniversary. Not only that, but for those of us that love DVD extras, there will also be a small documentary playing right after.

In addition to the feature presentation of The Wizard of Oz, this event includes a special introduction by Robert Osborne, a classic film historian and host of Turner Classic Movies, followed by “To Oz! The Making of a Classic,” a look into how L. Frank Baum’s classic novel was transformed into one of the most beloved films of all time including archival interviews, behind-the-scenes footage and rare musical outtakes.

Much of this footage can also be found on the numerous DVD releases of the movie. However, getting to see some of the outtake footage on the big screen could be worth it. Take the jump over to Fathom Events to see which theaters near you will be participating.
