'Blu-Ray' coming to your 'XBOX 360'?

One of the biggest factors for many people to get a PS3 is the addition of a Blu-Ray player. It has definitely been the thing that's been enticing me to consider it. Now that HD-DVD (which was a superior format but lacked the cool kid buzz) has gone the way of the Doe Doe Bird, I've been wondering for a while if/when an external Blu-Ray player would be made for the XBOX 360. While no date has been set, or given, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer may have let something slip during an interview with Gizmodo.com:

When I asked Ballmer about adding Blu-ray to the Xbox, he said:

Well I don't know if we need to put Blu-ray in there—you'll be able to get Blu-ray drives as accessories.

Though he says it with certitude, the timing of any kind of Blu-ray accessory is unclear. Could he have mispoken? Certainly. However, when I asked Xbox spokespeople about Ballmer's revelation, they responded:

Our immediate solution for Blu-ray-quality video on an Xbox 360 is coming this fall withZune Video and 1080p instant-on HD streaming. As far as our future plans are concerned, we're not ready to comment.

Hmmm...very interesting. While it's not a "yes", it's definitely not a "no". I wonder what Sony's position will be on this. While they would love to make money from Microsoft on new Blu-Ray players and the selling of Blu-Ray DVD's, will this also cut in to their PS3 sales if this does indeed happen? As I said, the player is one of the main reasons a LOT of people are buying the PS3 console. Especially now that they have created the next gen, slimmer version at a lower price.

What say you? Will you stick with your XBOX 360 because of this news and not bother getting the PS3?
