Goonies Never Say Die! An 80's Trip Down Memory Lane.

As I was enjoying my Sunday afternoon, there was something that caught my eye.  'The Goonies' was on.  It hasn't been that long since I've seen it, but it's a movie I can always stop and watch all the way through.  Now, when you watch it again you see that it is by no means a fantastic movie, nor is it an incredible one.  But it was a lot of fun.  It was an adventure.  As a kid to sit in the theater and watch this, I wanted to be a Goonie.  And I still feel that way whenever I see it.  This was a kids version of Indiana Jones.  It even had Short Round in it.  Suddenly the kids weren't just taking up space to move the story along.  We were exploring, discovering, making the audience laugh and saving the day.  Man, that was just cool.  And it of course had many of the cliches that made up 80's movies.  The kids from the wrong side of town; The rich jerk who treats his girlfriend like trash; a music single from a top 80's artist (Cindy Lauper); and the deformed person who finds that people love him for who he is, not what he looks like.  Most of all, it was just fun.

That's what the movies where like for me growing up.  They were fun, they were good and they made you wish that you were in it.  That's not to say that I loved every movie I saw, I still knew what sucked.  But the ones that captured my imagination are the ones that I will always hold dear.  So beginning this week I will take you down memory lane with some of the movies that we loved growing up.  And maybe even ones that we don't understand why we loved them (I'm looking at you 'Bedknob's and Broomsticks').

With that, I give you the original trailer for 'The Goonies' and the deleted giant octopus scene.

What say you? What was your Goonie experience like?
