Failing Upwards

So, the folks over at ThinkGeek have had one of their April Fools jokes go fantastically wrong...er...right(?).

Yesterday they posted the sleeping bag pictured at right as available for purchase for $39.99. This of course is a replica of a Tauntaun, much like the one Han slits open on Hoth to keep Luke alive in The Empire Strikes Back. My favorite part of this is the glowing lightsaber zipper pull, which you use to slit open the belly of the Tauntaun revealing intestine-print lining. Pure genius!

I almost blogged about this yesterday, but when I clicked on the "Buy Now" button, I was taken to the Gotcha! page, which also featured their other fake products in honor of the Day of All Fools (squeezable bacon, anyone?).

Well, it seems the folks at ThinkGeek got something right. In response to what must have been a slew of actual requests, the web page now features this message:

"ATTN Tauntaun Fanatics! Due to an overwhelming tsunami of requests from YOU THE PEOPLE, we have decided to TRY and bring this to life. We have no clue if the suits at Lucasfilms will grant little ThinkGeek a license, nor do we know how much it would ultimately retail for. But if you are interested in ever owning one of these, click the link below and we'll try! "

If you have any connections at Lucasfilms, now would be the time to send them a little email (or perhaps link them to this post), and plea on behalf of the ThinkGeek team to start getting these produced. And if you want to be notified if these do get licensed, click here.

P.S. - we hope you enjoyed our little jokes yesterday (with apologies to Rick Astley and Paris Hilton; but not Nadya Suleman. She needs to go away.)
