Top 5 At The Box Office. The Force Was Not Strong With 'Fanboys'.

A lot of female's came out on Friday to hear very current Myspace jokes and made 'He's Just Not That Into You' number 1 at the box office with an estimate of $27, 465, 000.00.  Here is the top 5:

1. He's Just Not That Into You
2. Taken
3. Coraline
4. The Pink Panther 2
5. Paul Blart: Mall Cop

On a sad note, Weinstein pretty much made 'Fanboys' D.O.A., opening at $164,000.00.  This is a movie that was complete 2 years ago and in search of a distrubutor.  He snatched it up and then made them remove a very important part of the story.  The basic plot is about a group of Star Wars fans excited about the pending release of Star Wars: Episode One.  But one of them has been diagnosed with cancer and may not live to see the movie.  They decide that they cannot let this happen and go on a road trip to break in Lucas Ranch, steal a print of the movie and watch it with their pal before he dies.  Well apparently cancer is a bummer word so he had all elements of it removed from the movie and had them reshoot most of it.  Once word of this got out last year, fans went online and demanded that the original plot remain intact or face a boycott.  The last thing you want is your core audience saying they will not see it.  The company actually gave in and left the original plot intact after the reshoots.

As if to say, "F*** you, " Weinstein decided a few weeks ago that this movie would only get a very limited release across the country.  Making it difficult for actual fanboys to even see the movie.  This is a guy who also botched the marketing and release of another comedy a couple of months ago that promised to be huge... 'Zack and Miri Make a Porno'.  What should have been Kevin Smith's most successful comedy came and went.  On his podcast a few weeks after the release of the movie, Kevin Smith said that he had talked to a diffferent studio head about the release and they told him that the movie should have had a $30,000,000.00 opening weekend.  That's just a little less than it made in it's full theatrical release.  In 2008, the two movies that came out of the Toronto Film Festival with the most positive press were 'Zack and Miri Make a Porno' and 'Slumdog Millionaire'.  Right now one of them looks to possibly be the upset winner for a Best Picture Oscar™, and the other was just released on DVD.  Harvey, if you strike us down, we shall be more powerful than you can possibly imagine.
